It is a beautiful town north that sits next to the Mosel. We parked and took a nice stroll through the town and then a steep hike to the castle. The castle is about 100 meters above the Mosel River. It was built in 1027 as an imperial residence and was rebuilt in the 1800's. It is said that the castle does not have the history of other castles because of that. They did rebuild it as close to the original lay. It is fully furnished and the tour is quite interesting. There was a tower called the Witches Tower that was the only part of the castle that was original. It was from that tower that the rest was modeled after.
The girls were ecstatic to be in a real castle. And see all the fancy furniture. The tour was in German, but I had a handy room by room guide to tell me the details of the different rooms.
I will plan on scrap booking the pictures as soon as possible so when you come to see us you can see the pictures, or go take your own!
Look like authentic tour guides right? Look at the shoes! This tickled me for some reason. I think I was oxygen deprived.
Thanks for the great pictures. It is almost like we are getting to visit Germany with you. And yes, the girls do look cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a view. Now, I will be on the computer finding out more about the castle. How neat to experience such an interesting piece of German history. I really like the ivy on the building and the grass growing through the stone walk. Beautiful country. I imagine the girls were so tired by the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the shoes on the tour guide. We all need a little modern day fashion even when wearing stuffy old stuff. I wish I could visit all the castles. I look forward to touring Germany via the Parrotts.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! How exciting. I would probably be all giddy if I got to go to a real castle, too!!
ReplyDeleteBeee-utiful. Wish I were there, I'm so glad to be getting this armchair tour of Germany, keep the photo's coming! Misses,
ReplyDeleteI was flipping through my calendar, and wouldn't you know it, next month's castle is none other than this one!! Just one more reason to think of you every day, and wish we could be there with you. Chuck took one look at these pics and said, "That's it, we're going back. Count on it!" We'll see...Thanks for sharing your memories with us!
